Welcome!

Hi Everyone,

Welcome to my blog! I’m Hayden, I’m Canadian, and I’m 19.

I’m a bit nervous but I created this blog because I want to write about my experience with illness with the hopes that it resonates with someone else.

I’ve lived with type 1 diabetes since I was 6, and at the end of 2017 and the beginning of 2018, I went from a super active high schooler to being so sick I could barely get out of bed. It was a terrifying time as we tried to figure out what was wrong, what to do, and where to go for support. It was hard to navigate and there are so many things that I wish I had known.

When I first got sick, I couldn’t really find any stories of young people living with this condition or a similar one. Jen Brea has been a huge inspiration for me but other than her, I haven’t seen a lot of people speak out about ME/CFS and because of this, I felt isolated and like nobody understood what I was going through. As a young person with big dreams, this made me feel like maybe there wasn’t anyone with this condition who was still able to accomplish things and create a life for themselves. I want to write about my life with this illness through my point of view. I love reading other people’s blogs so I’ve decided to share my story with the hopes that it will help someone else feel less alone.

A few non- illness related facts about me:
-I’ve lived in 5 countries!
-I love dogs!
-Career-wise, I’d like to work in healthcare. I was going to go to nursing school last fall, but now I’m slowly working towards a health sciences degree.
-I’m a super busy person and love creating things and feeling productive. This includes photography, art, crafts, and baking. I also really like studying :o)
-I love traveling! Even driving a few hours away from my house makes me excited because I love exploring.
-I’m a Meyer -Briggs ISFJ and I’d say it’s pretty accurate.

Thanks for reading and stay tuned for more!

Hayden
